Incidence of Neuralgic Amyotrophy (Parsonage Turner Syndrome) in a Primary Care Setting - A Prospective Cohort Study
OBJECTIVE Neuralgic amyotrophy is considered a rare peripheral nervous system disorder but in practice seems grossly under recognized, which negatively affects care for these patients. In this study we prospectively counted the one-year incidence rate of classic neuralgic amyotrophy in a primary care setting. METHODS In a prospective cohort study during the year 2012 we registered all new cas...
متن کاملHereditary neuralgic amyotrophy associated with a relapsing multifocal sensory neuropathy.
A family with neuralgic amyotrophy (idiopathic brachial plexus neuropathy) associated with a multifocal sensory neuropathy is described. Four members over two generations were affected by neuralgic amyotrophy, inherited as an apparent autosomal dominant trait; two also had a multifocal relapsing sensory neuropathy with the clinical features of Wartenberg's migrant neuropathy.

This article reports the difference between neuralgic amyotrophy and neuropathy caused by chemotherapy and radiation treatment which manifested with severe shoulder pain followed by marked weakness of bilateral upper arms and involvement of cranial nerves. A 62-year-old man presented with acute severe neuropathic pain at the left shoulder, bilateral shoulder weakness, hoarseness of voice from v...
متن کاملNeuralgic amyotrophy with bilateral diaphragmatic palsy.
Neuralgic amyotrophy is a well recognised condition of unknown aetiology with characteristic clinical features.' These include severe pain in the shoulder region, followed within hours or weeks by motor or sensory abnormalities, or both, in the distribution of the cervical roots or nerves. Unilateral disease is more common clinically but if electromyographic (EMG) studies are performed bilatera...

Neuralgic amyotrophy (Parsonage-Turner syndrome) is an idiopathic brachial plexus neuritis which commonly affects the upper trunks. Since the first description during World War II there have been multiple reports highlighting the manifestations of this syndrome. The clinical presentation may be individual mononeuropathy, multiple mononeuropathies or involvement of a single trunk, most commonly ...
